Ngungugu Primary School Program -Thika, Kenya

The African Millennium Foundation is helping build the bridge of education in Thika, Kenya. At Ngungugu Primary School, the need for support is great. The government does not cover minimal school expenses: teacher fees, book supplies, exterior needs. Currently, the class size drops by half between 4th and 8th grade because of the dire conditions. Children choose to work for small monies then stay in school. AMF is dedicated to promoting education within the community by funding interior and exterior needs while also implementing a In-School Feeding Program.
Thika Women Microcredit Program

AMF is implementing an In-School feeding program, providing many students with the only meal they will receive all day. To implement the program, AMF will work with a group of 25 women in the Thika community. Through the empowerment of micro-loans, the women work together to profit from a small farming co-op. The African Millennium Foundation is implementing a free-lunch program at Ngungugu Primary in Thika, Kenya. Focusing on one of the poorest areas of Kenya, the program provides many students with the only meal they will receive all day. To implement the free-lunch program, AMF work with a group of 25 women in the Thika community. Through the empowerment of micro-loans, the women work together to profit from a small farming co-op.

The co-op of women work together on a shared piece of land to rear chickens, pigs, cows, and farm vegetables. These products provide food to the free lunch program at Ngungugu Primary, where many of their children and grandchildren attend. The project also is a source of income for the women, collectively selling products in the local market for an additional profit. This income helps improve the lives for them and their families who currently survive on less then $1 a day.
