A Nossa Casa (sustainable village)

We are here at Osborne Architects in a video conference with students from USC's Vitirbi school of engineering. We are discussing projects for A Nossa Casa (sustainable village) with Prof. Steve Bucher's Writing 340: Communication for Engineers, Community consulting project. We heard a lot of great ideas related to solar energy, communication, education and clean water.

A Nossa Casa Fundraising Event

Polly Osborne has a fundraiser for Reencontro, the NGO we are working with in Mozambique. Reencontro is dedicated to saving orphans from poverty, and getting them fed, clothed and educated. She has done a design with Pali Fekete Studio for a center for these children called "A Nossa Casa." The center, when built, will be run by Reencontro.

Nena Rodrigue, Adam Tyler, Jamie Rosenthal and AMF raised funds to build, "A Home For Us," a sustainable village providing a beacon of hope to children orphaned by AIDS in Moxambique.

Girls Helping Girls

Creating Jewelry for Sustainable Futures
Working with NGO partner Reencontro, the program will empower young girls who have lost their parents to AIDS by providing them the tools to create beautiful jewelry. The pieces will be sold in the United States and abroad. Leah More will be working on the ground with the girls over her Spring Break to give them the tools and teach them how to make pieces based off of her own designs.

AMF Solar Oven BBQ Fundraising Event

Tal and Terence are headed to Maputo, Mozambique with the lofty goal of bringing 15 Solar Ovens to the community there. They had teamed up with AMF and The Apron Project for a charity event to raise money for the purchase of the Solar Ovens. They used all proceeds from the event to help purchase and ship ovens to Mozambique where they handed deliver them to the women of Maputo, many of whom were helping to raise some of Mozambique's 1.5 million children orphaned by the AIDS epidemic.

USC Valedictorian Thanks AMF In Graduation Speech

AMF is honored to have the opportunity to work with the inspiring students at the University of Southern California. Through an integrated curriculum with the Viterbi School of Engineering, AMF has worked one-on-one with students to create and improve programs throughout Africa. Viterbi Valedictorian, Zeeshan Ahmed, holds working with AMF as one of the highlights of his college experience.

1st Annual Children Raising Children fundraiser

1st Annual Children Raising Children fundraiser, spearheaded by the AMF and AMF Ambassador Lindsay Price, raised awareness to proactive solutions to the global crisis of the millions of orphaned and vulnerable children today. This event marked the fundraising launch of AMF's A Nossa Casa project in partnership with the University of Southern California (USC) which will provide shelter, care and solutions to orphaned children in Mozambique.

Martin Sheen : PSA for a Nossa Casa

Martin Sheen narrates a public service announcement for the African Millennium Foundation's project, "A Home For Us" with footage from Mozambique that documents the lives of AIDS orphans. As the footage plays, Mr. Sheen describes how the "A Home For Us" project will empower some of the 11 million African AIDS orphans to break the cycle of poverty.

Home Is Where You Find It

AMF in partnership with Venice Arts is happy to announce that Mozambican teenager Alcides Soares' documentary short about being orphaned by AIDS has been accepted in to four festivals this year: AFI Silver Docs (Washington, D.C.), Human Rights Watch Film Festival (New York), Globians (Berlin), and Rhode Island International Film Festival.

Mark Leibowitz

Using his photography, fashion photographer Mark Leibowitz works to create positive global change. Proceeds from his Backstage exhibit, featuring images photographed at John Galliano’s 2008 fashion shows, will benefit AMF projects. Mark is taking a personal trip to Maputo, Mozambique in October to work with Reencontro's Photography Institute to inspire the children to share their stories through the art of photography.

USC student trip to Mozambique

USC Professor Sandra Chrystal took her Advanced Writing for Business students out of the classroom and across the world to develop in their roles as global citizens. Through a partnership with AMF, students were introduced to projects in Mozambique and how their business skills could assist these grassroots’ efforts. The trip to Mozambique, through the AMF partnership, built bridges between university and the larger global community to create opportunities for an engaged and globally responsible citizenry.

Reencontro

Expanding on work completed with Reencontro, AMF is committed to constructing a sustainable village, A Nossa Casa, where children orphaned by AIDS can regain hope for their futures through social services and assistance. Los Angeles based architect, Polly Osborne is volunteering her time to the design and construction of A Nossa Casa. The successes of this project will lead a revolutionary initiative for reaching the millions of children impacted by the AIDS pandemic.
